HELP: Theatre Analysis Paper

I have a small favor to ask of you all:

I am required to submit a writing sample to a college as soon as possible. They asked that the sample be a theatre analysis paper. I may be thinking too hard, but I can't seem to think of anything to write about. What exactly is it that I should be analyzing? A particular aspect of theatre? The fine art of theatre in general? I'm truly stumped and any help would be much appreciated.

You could do theatre history. I did a paper musical theatre from the '30's to '50's, and I found some pretty good info.

Thanks you two! You got my thought process going. I think I may do it on the recent article in the NY Time regarding how American Idol is, or isn't, influencing Broadway these days.
