An interesting article in the Washington Post this morning. Your thoughts?

Wow. That's really bad.
It's like that whole thing with Britney Spears when everyone was obsessed and just wearing bras instead of shirts.
That was when I was 10, and in dance class. I didn't do that myself, but I certainly remember that.

i hate it... i'm 21 but i'm short and i dont fit into most of the adult costumes, so i have to get mine form the teen section... everything was so slutty. the pirate costume i ended up getting, i chose it beacuse it was the least slutty costume they had.
and besides.. i sit outside all night on halloween... what do i need some tiny little mini costume for? i'd freeze to death.

Now, I only got to see the kindergarteners in their costumes at school on Friday, but I was pleasantly surprised at the number of "traditional" costumes. There were witches, and a penguin, and a Spiderman or two. My favorite was the 5 year old dressed as Queen Elizabeth. It was priceless. Of course, we also had a "rock star' or two...and yes, the moms made them wear t-shirts or leotards under the skimpy little tops that didn't cover their midriffs.

It really is sad what some parents think is acceptable for preteens these days. No child in elementary school should be wearing a t-shirt that says "Hottie" or "Sexy" or "Heartbreaker". Let them be kids!

Here! Here! I completely agree.

At the height of the popslut phase (4 years ago or so), I had a very hard time finding jeans that weren't hiphuggers or lowriders for my daughter. My then-2 year old, still diaper-wearing daughter.

I make all my kids' costumes. And save about -$30 in the process...

I was in Halloween USA a few weeks ago, and came across some absolutely awful costumes in the girls' section...cops, firefighters, maids, you get the idea. And not authentic cops, firefighters, or maids, either.

I remember my cousin telling me a few years ago that when she went underwear shopping for her then-8 year old daughter, she found thongs for that age group. Unbelievable!

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I hate when people let their kids wear ridiculous costumes. Nobody should want to see an 8 year old in a cheetah spandex minidress. I turned 18 today and I don't even feel the need to dress up like a slut. I'm actually being a plant cell! I'd rather be a nerd than a whore anyday!
