Has anyone been to this and is it really worth going?
Yes, three years in a row. It's fun for literally 1.2 seconds. It proved to be more irritating than anything else, with the thousands and thousands of people and all of the street closures. I won't be returning for quite some time, as it left me fed up and frustrated. I ended up just jumping on the subway, going to a friend's apartment, and getting drunk.

Better to make a costume and march in it. All you have to do is show up and get in line.
Be afraid. Be very afraid! I gave up on this three or four years ago when it took me 45 minutes to walk one city block and was almost crushed to death in the process. It was a lot more fun (and gayer) before the bridge and tunnel crowd discovered it. Now it's just an annoying and frightful mess! My advise is to stay home and watch it on NY1.
The parade really hasn't been the same since they took it off the side streets and put it on 6TH avenue. I had some really fun memories of the tableaux people would perform from windows amnd balconies.
Now, the best way to see it is to be in it!
