Good Lord, FindingNamo, you are very bitter today. Did you audition for these parts that PW got? Is that were all this misguided anger is coming from?
Did you see PW in "The Full Monty?"

I did not see him in The Full Monty live. Without going into too much detail, I will say that I did see a record of his performance. I have refrained from commenting on that specific performance because I never sat in a theater and endured it. Fortunately, I did manage to catch the first national tour, which did demonstrate that there was a good show there. Even without The Producers I don't think Wilson would have done the Broadway production any favors come Tony time that year.
I'm not exactly sure what you want from me, neal? People have asked specifically what it is I don't like about him and I have illustrated my opinions with several specific examples. I think bitter people who have lost parts to him would probably just say they hate him as a person or that he is, um, un-amazing or something.
Hell, I was half-serious when I made The Complete Idiot's Guide to Acting suggestion as a birthday present, but people asked for explication and I provided it. Calling people bitter and misguided strikes me as the next-to-last vestige of somebody who has nothing substantive to counterbalance a discussion point.

It's too bad that you never saw PW in his Tony nominated performance in "The Full Monty" he was very good.
Maybe, it's just me, but there's something else simmering there, right under the surface regarding your very obvious dislike to PW. Something's bugging you - that's for sure. Making a comment to someone who is bitter and misquided isn't a counterbalance. It's merely an observation.

Eh, everyone has different tastes. I don't think anyone's going to convince anyone else to completely change their perception of an actor they hate or love.
I personally never thought Patrick Wilson was remotely sexy until I saw a video of him wearing a hat... covering his hairline. But he's one of those actors who I appreciate without being attracted to.

Absolutely, everyone has different tastes, likes, dislikes, etc. That's not even the issue.
And, Schmerg, you bring up a great word in your hosting.....HATE! How can you HATE someone you've never met...someone you don't know anything about?

I hope you're not implying that's what I wrote, since I took great pains to make that clear in the second paragraph of my 3:04 post that I was not.
It has long been my suspicion that there's something else going on with the people who "love" Patrick Wilson despite his obvious (to me) professional weaknesses. Which is where I came in on this thread, because it's always been clear that Dollypop's lust is the motivating factor of his ardor. Which is redundant, but still.

FindingNamo, I hear you loud and clear regarding that. Yes, there are people who lust over PW or other people, but only their lust is what they see...they don't see the talent.
We can agree to disagree on PW. I think he's very talented. Obviously, he's doing something right as he's a working actor.

Hi Guys...interesting discussion, mind if I join in for a bit?
Like many of you, I've been around a lot of professional talent for a loooong time.
What people observe on stage and/or film is "acting". Anyone can act. Being sexy or attractive does not make a great actor. Having knocked out voice does not make a great actor or a great singing actor. I am less than enamoured with many, many stage actors that some folks are ga-ga over. I have never seen Patrick Wilson perform live. I was not impressed with him in the POTO film, which I'me sure is not a good measure of the man's acting abilities.
When I see an actor/actress, regardless of their physical attractivnesss, I look to see if they truly become emersed in the character. At what point do I start to believe the person he/she has become? That happens so rarely these days. But when it does, it's a heart pounding, goosebump experience.
I also don't buy into the fairy tale of my "favorite" stage actors can play any role well because I view them as wonderful and so talented.
I have made and lost theater friends over this. But hey, if you're up there like a fish ouuta water imo, expecting me to love your work, well I'd rather be honest than feed your ego with false hopes.
Have a great weekend!
