I wanted to love this movie so much. It's been a long time since I've seen a really sweeping animated motion picture, so when I saw the previews for this I thought we might have another "Finding Nemo" on our hands. Sadly we don't.

The film looks beautiful on IMAX, but that's about it. I was bored after the first half hour, and the gimmick of having the penguins dance and sing to modern day songs grew old quickly. The ending was completely out of left fied and didn't make any sense, even for an animated film.

Overall, go for the visuals but make sure to leave your brain at the door. At least I still have my old copies of "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Finding Nemo." Maybe if I'm a good boy Santa will help get a decent animated film made.

I went to see it earlier this week. We lasted about 15 minutes (Kidman's whispery-acting has reached an all new plateau here! Blech!), then walked out and watched Flushed Away. It was infinitely more enjoyable!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)
