Has anyone seen Ponyo yet?
#1Has anyone seen Ponyo yet?
Posted: 8/22/09 at 10:33amI have said it before and I will say it again, that I am a huge fan of Hayeo Miazaki's work. With that said, I was wondering if anyone has seen Ponyo yet? I haven't and I am interested in hearing what others who have seen think of it. I don't think that by hearing anything good or bad is going to dissuade me from seeing it because it has been a movie that I have been looking forward to seeing for a while. But, I am still interested in hearing what others think of the film.

Haven't seen it, but heard that it's great. Less ambiguous than some of his more "spitiual" films.
I did just watch Nausica Of The Valley Of The Wind again on dvd however. Forgot how beautiful that movie is.

Posted: 8/23/09 at 4:25pmI saw it and it's very cute, but I can't say it's my favorite Miyazaki. It has some things in common with My Neighbor Totoro that the latter does much better. That said, it's still Miyazaki and adorable, even if the plot makes no sense whatsoever. Tina Fey does a very good voice job.

To me, the whole atmosphere of the movie like it was a blend of Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle, with Totoro having more in common with Ponyo.
It's such a cute movie. The little kids are SO realistic and natural, and I definitely recommend seeing it.

It's good to know. I do want to see it as I have said before, the only problem is finding a theatre not that far from me that is showing it.
I did come close to seeing it after going to the theatre one night. But, then I found out what time it got out and had to refund my ticket after realizing that it would make me miss the last train back home to Long Island. This was at the AMC on 42nd.

Because we're far apart over the summer, we watch movies online togetehr at night and talk about them on IM as they go. We've been on a Miyazaki kick, and have decided to watch every one ever made before the year is out. We're so excited!

I saw Ponyo when it came out. It was really good & terribly cute. I've only seen Kiki's Delivery Service when I was like 10 years old. The middle got kind of boring, but I think I only felt that because the 4 year old I took to see it was getting bored & asking when it was over. But she ended up liking it. She didn't like Up though, which i also loved. But I digresss. It was a great movie & I definitely recommend it

Finally saw this yesterday. I was completely charmed by it. And absolutely delightful movie.
