worked with a director that, even though they're talented, in their effort to bring their own "concept" to a show they totally miss the whole point?

I'm currently rehearsing for a *community theater* production of A Chorus Line. So, ok, we're not B'way material, but it's always fun to be in this show, any show, for that matter. Well, so we're not doing original choreography... I can live with that. BUT the new choreography makes NO sense within the context of the show... totally missed the point of everyone looking the same and basically loosing their individuality. Thank GOD she changed her mind about the finale... originally she was going to try to choose different people every night, but after she realized that it would be a nightmare to change and know when you were supposed to come out, she went back to the original-which I like 'cause I'm Bobby and get picked! Yay! I was Paul the first time and didn't even make it to the end. Anyway... I digress. However, during the last one, we don't have A Chorus Line, but FOUR! Everyone from the opening joins us on stage, and the "line" forms two lines IN THE BACK and the *company* forms two lines in the front. (And I'm not even gonna get started on the Montage...)

So, I finally said to myself that in order to enjoy this experience, I just have to tell myself that this is HER ACL, and that it'll be ok. I've had a hard time with that, but I was getting to be pretty ok with it. The cast is meshing well, and even though it's not my ideal interpretation of the show, it's still fun.

Now yesterday I find out that the line is actually going to be in the back of the space, and everything is going to happen in front! Oh well... I'm having a hard time asking my theater friends to come and see the show simply because it so misses the point. But I've worked hard at it... so I hope they're understanding.

And like I said... I'm working really hard at accepting the production for what it is and not put my own interpretation on it. Just wondering how other people cope when a production they're in totally misses the point...

Thank you for reading my long-winded rant...
