I searched on the boards for recommendations for cheap NY accommodations, but all of the threads were really old (2004!) I've looked these four places up online, but would love some firsthand recommendations from those on this board who might have stayed at one in the recent past.

Cheers!

Haven't stayed at any of them, but checkout tripadvisor.com, which has reviews (and pictures) from people's recent visits. I always visit that site before choosing any hotel.

I've already checkout out tripadvisor, but the reviews are so up and down that it's hard to know what to believe. Figured I'd come here for some additional opinions. Thanks for the help anyway!

Last week I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express -- Manhattan Chelsea. It's on 29th between 7th & 8th, everything's brand new, small but very clean and comfortable rooms, good free breakfast, business room with free computer/printer access...

I got it on Priceline for $68 a night. Crazy, huh?

I don't think it's listed on tripadvisor yet since it's brand new, but definitely check it out.

I must admit I am a little scared to use Priceline. Call me old fashioned but I like to see what I'm buying before I buy it. Has anyone else had success with Priceline?

I've done Priceline in other cities and have always gotten nice chain hotels - Marriotts, Wyndhams, etc. I've never personally Pricelined for a hotel in NYC, but a friend who used to visit fairly often used it and always got nice hotels. Usually hotels geared to business travelers, since she came on weekends.
