Headshots in the Chicagoland area?

I'm going into my senior year of high school and I'm going to need to get some headshots done before college auditions in February. Does anyone know of any photographers in the Chicagoland area that aren't outrageously expensive? I live in a city that's right between Milwaukee and Chicago, so photographers that work out of either of those cities would be fine. Also, does anyone have any tips (clothes, make up, in general etc) for the actual photoshoot? Thanks!

P.S. I'm aware this is on the Off-Topic board...I figured I would put it here, considering this gets more traffic than the Chicago board does!

You may wish to check outhese links of Chicago photographers.

I would discuss any concerns with them regarding hair/make-up etc....generally headshots should last you about 4 years...so be aware that if you drastically change your hairstyle or haircolor during that time, you'll need new shots.

Rates will really depend on how many looks, and rolls of film you want. Naturally, the hottest photographers will also be the most expensive.

Color shots are very popular in Chicago now.

I went to Janna GiaCoppo, and thought she was terrific. At the end of the session she gave me a CD with ALL the photos on it so that I can reproduce them any way I want, which is awesome. She was delightful, and my pictures actually look like me (which is the goal... Not to look like a supermodel, but to look like you look when you walk into an audition)

I highly recommend her.

I've also heard good things about:

Are color headshots a new trend? I'm seeing them more and more often now.

McConkey is excellent and it is very easy to order prints through his website.

My wife has color headshots only. Agents submit for auditions electronically, so I assume agents prefer color. My shots are black and white, but mine were taken before color was invented.

Mine are color, which I think is a good idea right now. You can always reproduce them in B&W if you need to...

I've also seen a lot of natural light, outdoor headshots lately (as opposed to studio-looking ones).

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll ask here. Does anyone know of any good photographers in New York?I'd rather hear it from people's experience than just looking on a website.

Isn't this awful? I read the title of this thread and immediately thought "Isn't that how Dillinger got it?"

That is awful mamie.

What city, because there are a ton of great photographers in the Rockford, IL area.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! =] skb, I live in Kenosha, WI...but Rockford isn't THAT far away - they have an awesome water park there! Mamie, that's terrible, yet hilarious.

Nice! My dad grew up in Kenosha.

Magic Waters all the way! Michelle Willams (Destiny's Child member) was the Magic Waters mascot when she was a teenager. (I don't think there is still a mascot though.)

Random trivia is always fun.

It was only a few years ago that color headshots were not even accepted at auditions. How do you know what to bring? Does everyone accept them now? Is it considered the norm or something?

From what I have heard....color headshots are practically mandatory if you are seeking any type of on camera work.

Theatre auditions seems to be fine with either.

I personally love black and white headshots...they look classy, and your clothes don't have to coordinate!
