Help!

What should one do when one is in a show in which one has a large, famous role, and one's director is not giving any sort of helpful direction and appears, in fact, to have a negative sense of theatricality? One does not want to be one-note, and wants to give this otherwise one-note role depth, but is getting no help from the director. For those of you who know which role it is I mean, please DO NOT actually post it.

Man, that's rough. Can I assume you've already discussed this with the director in question? Or is it not the sort of situation in which it's feasible to do so?

Do NOT rent the movie. Barbra Streisand was TERRIBLE! (You know who should have played that part!)
