Folks,

My brother is a biologist back home in Costa Rica. One of his main projects is the protection of sea turtles and their habitats. Playa Grande is a beautiful beach where the turtles come to spawn. I have been there and the beauty of the place is amazing. Please join us in showing worldwide support against the development inside the National Park created for their protection by signing the petition at the link below.

ETA: that site is VERY cool, and it's all about Playa Grande, where I've been several times. The site is very informative... thank you orangeskittles.

Since we’ve lost 90 percent of our population in the last 10 years – what do you call that? Turtlecide? Species-cide? (What would YOU call it if 90 percent of humans had died over the last 10 years? A CRISIS, PEOPLE!!!)

In the email updates, they said that they're "patrolling" the beaches, because they recognize the very problems addressed in the petition and are concerned about their nests.

It's such a nice beach. The irony is that the beach went literally unnoticed until the early 90's, when someone figured out they could do the whole eco-tour, turtle tour, that's what began the development of the beach as a tourist attraction. And now they are going to develop it to the point of erradicating them completely.

Erika, this is a "real" document, like any "real" petition you would sign in CA, for example. However, I do understand your reluctance, with this age of scams and everything.

Erika - I know, but it's the TURTLES!

And at this point, with all the ordering we do online and sending our credit card info all over the place, I just figure 'whatever!'

LOL... Well, speaking of which, my husband and I were just the victims of a theft (someone acquired hubby's bankcard number and went on a spree to the tune of $2000,), so I'm not as inclined to be "whatever." But I know, I know, it's the TURTLES!!!

The only identity theft we've had to deal with is when an IDIOT at AAA threw away a bunch of paperwork without shredding - and it got stolen from the trash! EVERYTHING had to be changed and attended to - a GIGANTIC pain-in-the-patootie! Can you believe this world we have to deal with?!?

And it's the TURTLES! (I just couldn't help myself! )
