Okay, my dad's GF said she found this bird in the living, we think it's a little dove. It's got baby bird fluff and it's eyes are open. We've also put it in a pet carrier so that the cats can't get it (I assume it was the nice cat that brought it in, because the mean cat would have hurt it).
I've had one before and what we did was feed it some "Bird Meal" from a surenge. My dad's GF said they feed it an earth worm cut up. So I assume that either of the two should be fine.
What about water? I'm not sure what we did before about giving it water. What should we do about this?
Any Advice will help!
Call a wildlife rescue type place. You can NOT feed it a cut up earthworm! The mother bird uses the saliva in her mouth to start the digestion process for the baby and it will have trouble digesting the worm without these emzymes. The bird meal should work if fed through a syringe. You can give it water from a dropper. But you should call someone who deals with wild birds as soon as possible. (Your new little friend probably has mites that will get all over you, your clothes and your house.)
Yes, either call animal control or some equivalent rescue organization, or bring him to a vet. It's frustrating, but a lot of times people who want to help in situations like this end up doing more harm than good, because they want so badly to help, but they don't know what to do, so they do something wrong. Get that little guy to someone who knows what they're doing as soon as you can.
was it in a cinnamon tree?
^HA!
Well You'll be pleased to know that My Dad's GF said that she put the bird in a box on top of the horse trailer, which is under the tree where said his nest was, and that he was able to fly back to his nest.
So if that's true, then I think it works out for the best.
Not too long ago, while feeding my stray, wild, cats down the park, the mother had her baby, tiny winy, in one of my feeding boxes. I only noticed it because it was crying. It must have just been born. I was going to take it but first called my vet, animal control and the Humane who I have dealt with in my town. They all said to leave it with its mother. It will probably die if they tried to feed it with a bottle. I always checked the "box" when the mama cat came out to eat, making her nervous. I did this on purpose. I did not want the kitten out in the open. She moved the kitten a week later to a hiding spot but I do not know where. If I did, I would take it once it was weaned. Unfortunately, the area is in a park is where people play ball, walk dogs etc. I was afraid of feral animals at night looking for food. I once found a bird and called the vet, he took it and then called a Wildlife Reserve. Sometimes, although your intentions are good, they should be taken by professionals as with the bird or let the momma find it.
