Help for my essay about colored musical singers

Hi,
I have to make an essay about the problems that colored musical singers have to overcome and so for my course of musicaltheater and I don't know how to come in contact with the right people to give me some answers. Can somebody please help out with this?

I assume you are not American, because in America, the use of the word "Colored" to refer to people of African descent is considered out of date and offensive.
