#1Help with a rather unorthodox high school musical

I am just about obsessed with the musical Zanna Don't. For those who don't know, it's a musical set in a world a lot like our own except for the fact that homosexuality is normal and straight people have to come out of the closet to deal with heterophobia.

The show follows the exploits of Zanna, a teenage fairy in both the sexual and magical senses of the word who is basically the town Cupid, over the course of a normal school year at Heartsville High and all the problems he has to deal with from finding a match for himself to dealing with the repercussions of a heterosexual couple coming out.

I would like to convince the drama department to put this show on my senior year but, being that it's not the typical high school musical, I'm worried that they'd be worried that it would offend some people material-wise.

If you look past the subject matter, it's practically the perfect high school musical. It has about a moderate-size cast with a good gender balance (even though there are a couple more male roles than female) and no roles that are really difficult to sing. The music is really fun and pop-y, sort of like Grease and Hairspray but with a slight rock edge. There's just enough setting elements to give a sense of place and not have it be one of those bare-stage avant-garde shows but not too many that would be too demanding on our Technical Theater class.

Here's a video of the opening number from the Australian premiere to give you an idea of what it's like

So I need a way to convince our drama department to put this on because our school hasn't really done shows that are that edgy.
Our last few shows (including ones from before I attended) were
The Music Man
Godspell
Anything Goes
Into The Woods
Little Shop Of Horrors
You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
Footloose

So what would be the best way to convince a drama department known for shows like those above to do something this weird?
