Posted: 5/29/09 at 8:44pmI am making a costume for my drama competition and i was curious if she stoops to conquer by oliver goldsmith is considered 'timeless' like shakespeare. there is no set time period written, it is a satire. does anyone know?

They just did this at my university and It's a comedy of manners. I'm not sure if I would say it's necessarily "timeless" like Shakespeare because everything in it is tied to the socio-economic circumstances of the time it was written.
You might be able to take it into another time period but you'd have to have really strong justification for your choices since a lot of the humor is the social decorum of that day (1700s) and might not make sense in other time periods. I would just say research and read it more and make really specific justified choices whatever you do.

Posted: 11/3/09 at 8:38pmI am doing the same, i am guessing you live in florida. I asked my sponser and because of the "social issues" it should stay in the time period it was written in. But you CAN change the time period, you just better have some good resoning to back it up
