I am auditioning for a season with a new theatre company- and I'm currently surfing through audition songs and monologues.
While I dont know what monologue I will use, because Im terrible at finding monologues - I am more concerned about my song choice
reason being: on the season schedule are "A Grand Night for Singing,""Jane Eyre," and "Great American Trailer park musical"
I know GNFS and Jane Eyre both have classical sounds to them, and Im not sure about the younger male role in Trailer Park
Im trying to decided between a newer sound, or that classical sound, or find one thats right in between. Im a pretty big theatre nerd - but theres gotta be someone who's pulling things out of their heads that I havent even dreamed of. Thanks!
Heres the stats: Bariton/Tenor(low f to b flat head voice) Fine with any range really
things I've looked at:
"Forest for the Trees" - Spitfire Grill; pretty good mix of old and new possible
"Highway Miles" - the flood - a bit new
"A bit of Earth" - the Secret Garden
"Not Afraid" - Michael Arden
"Boy With Dreams" - Edges
"If I cant Love Her" - Beauty and the Beast
"Mooning" - Grease (uck!)
"Venice" - Elegies
Thoughts, Feelings, Suggestions?
I'll record anything if you wanna hear me sing it to help in the decision, lol ... then I would have a reason as opposed to the desire to sing and put things on youtube like every teenager in the nation.
thanks for the help!
what are the musical styles of the shows?
and the time periods?

I suggest you have one ballad, one uptempo at hand - one from the classic MT period to cover Jane Eyre and GNFS and one modern (post 1970, post 1980 would be better) to cover the modern pop elements of Spitfire Grill.
"Forest for the Trees" - Spitfire Grill; pretty good mix of old and new possible - I would only sing from the show if they specifically ask for it
"Highway Miles" - the flood - a bit new - good idea
"A bit of Earth" - the Secret Garden - yes, good idea
"Not Afraid" - Michael Arden - good idea
"Boy With Dreams" - Edges - yes
"If I cant Love Her" - Beauty and the Beast - again, good
"Mooning" - Grease (uck!) - NO
"Venice" - Elegies - maybe
You have your modern bases quite covered but I think if you do something like The Flood, you need a real classic MT song to contrast. What have you got written between 1940 and 1965?
Also - sing something that shows you and your personality off and that you feel totally comfortable with.
