Hey, Does anyone have any experience with this show or seen it?
Any highlights? Things people did well? Technical aspects? Posters? E.t.c
I'm directing the production this year and any help would be great!
A theatre in my town just did this production! My best friend was in it. The whole thing was actully really good. I've never seen the movie, but I really enjoyed the stage show. The set was ver simple; just a bridge the actors could walk on and under. The best part of this production by far was the detention scene where they are playing the animal game. My friend was "the earthworm." Basically he crawled across the stage really slowly by raising his butt, moving is chin forward, and putting his butt back down. No one really noticed till he was about half way across the stage, then everyone just lost it. It was so funny, cus he was so serious about it! Then one of the other characters who was supposed to be a chicken "ate" him and he just lied dead on the stage for a while. That part got applause every single night. It was amazing. Good luck with your production!! Let us know how it goes!
If you facebook me (Sarah McKenney) I have a couple photo albums from our production of the show. It's not as easy as it looks.

I have seen the show and it is similar to the movie but not exactly. It starts with the first day of school. Troy and Gabriella reminisce about vacation. They added some songs and extended some roles. Gabriella role is cutback. This show is very similar to Grease. Gabriella/Sandy don't really do a lot. Sharpay/Rizzo are substantially bigger roles. I knew some kids and the music director of the show and said the music is quite demanding for teens.
My summer theatre camp did HSM this past season. I agree that Sharpay is a much larger role than Gabriella, though I disagree that the music is vocally challenging or demanding for teens. The songs were mostly sung in unison, and there was occasional harmony. I didn't pay that much attention to it.
some pictures from the production i saw
There is actually lots of different harmonies but it seems like most theaters opt out of that..especially all the accapella sections that are GORGEOUS when sung correctly. Also the backup vocals to when there was me and you are slightly difficult and most people take that part out as well.
