In brief, ANNIE (1977) had its tryout at the Goodspeed Opera House with an unknown teen singer named Kristen Vigard.
Although Vigard received good notices, Composer/Director Charles Strouse thought she came across as "too tough" for role and decided to replace her with Andrea McArdle, who he felt came across as "sweeter" and more innocent.
Then, after placing McArdle in title role, Strouse auditioned performers to be her Standby.
Guess who was chosen?--Kristen Vigard!!!
And you are free to call me M.E. :)
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."
