Though the campaign later argued that he hadn't said it, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's chief campaign strategist told reporters this morning that Sen. Barack Obama "can't win the general election."

Don't you EVER get tired ? It's so pathetic !
gmf, while i agree that a lot of what goth posts makes me want to bang my head against the wall, this would have gotten posted by someone anyway. it's going to be rather big news as it's another example of the clinton campaign's racism. so i have a hard time seeing it as pathetic.
Mark Penn?
At least he's a credible source, even though Obama has won more states, more votes and more delegates than the HillBilly.

Although, in critical states like Ohio and Florida, Hill's got the victory. So, I'm not sure the primary system accounts for that.

All great men are misunderstood in their own generation. In 2108, when people read my postings, I will be hailed as a great thinker.
a legend in his own mind they'll say.
This is the first glimpse of humor I've ever seen from Goth ! I admit it, I hate him a tiny litlle bit less after this !
Forget 2018, I vote to hail you right now...it's still hail season right?

Another point ! Please stop, I enjoy hating you !
Goth had a good zinger for Baayork Lee that I enjoyed a great deal, Greek...
And papa...I think Dominican testicle-sized is more appropriate than golfball-sized.

We can always count on Florida for election humor. That state did something to piss off the election gods. Where is Katherine Harris these days?

So some states are more equal than others? A victory in OHIO is important and a victory in Illinois isn't? More is more- the only thing that matters is the delegates.
not that the last two elections were hung on swing states or anything.
And, yes, florida. The polls show she would win Florida and michigan today. And if one counts those states, she is ahead in the popular vote. Maybe not in delegates.
But if all that matters to one is the delegates, then you must be content with the notion that bush won in 2000 despite being behind gore in the popular vote.
Sigh. Oh how I can not wait for this to be over.
Obama has actually won more swing states than Clinton has thus far. And the bottom line is that this is not the general election. Clinton could beat Obama in any of the swing states or large states and that has absolutly no bearing on whether or not he would beat McCain in those states in the general election.

"At the crux of the Clinton camp's argument is that Pennsylvania is a critical swing state. But this is not a general election; it’s a primary and as NBC’s Mark Murray wrote yesterday there is no direct correlation historically between primary victories and general-election ones.
In addition, a poll the Clinton campaign cited on the call to show that their candidate holds an 18-point lead in Pennsylvania, also shows Obama faring slightly better than Clinton against McCain among Keystone Staters in a general-election match up.

Not to open up a very old can of worms but Gore didn't win in 2000- I think had the supreme court ordered all votes to be counted he would have- but once the Supreme Court ruled he was absolutely right to conceded. To do otherwise would have provoked a civil war. But that was then- I think Obama is eminently electable.
Now, if you want a really spirited debate, would George W. Bush have done the same if the Court ruled against him?
by April 22, Hillary will have won the 3 crucial swing states.
And she wins in the red areas of each state--that's what we need to win red states. The liberal cities will vote for a dem anyway. So if I'm looking at who stands a better chance at winning red states or at least the swing states, I'm seeing that Hillary is stronger.
I only concede that Hillary would likely have many but not all youth and black voters abstaining unless obama were the vp.
Do you have statistics to back up that claim Jerby? I am from a red state and most people I know hate Hillary. I am not saying it is warranted, but my parents and her friends have been passing around email forwards about how bad Hillary will be for our country. I don't see the Hillary love here in Indiana. I actually only know one Hillary supporter, but I am in college which skews the demographic. Then again northern Indiana is basically a suburb of Chicago so we aren't a typical red state in this election.
Every election night, CNN talks about how Clinton's votes are heavier in the rural areas and Obama's votes are heavier in the cities.
While not the case with every state, look at these maps:

Now look at this one:
And this weird one that tries to take into account the country by population:

And the best map:
Thanks JRB. It's pretty amazing how almost uniformly purple Iowa appears. (2004 map.) I can see why so many consider it an important state to start the primaries.
And that population map looks kinda like a beta fish.
