Dunno, but it sure looks creepy.
Is this an April Fools prank, or just hackery?
Whatever it is, it sure messes with the layout.

That's the poster art for the new Bea Arthur Musical, "The Man in the Sun is a Turkey."
eta: I don't know who the guy is, but that's the flag of Turkey.

I don't know who that guy is either... and the flag of Turkey is superimposed on a map of Turkey.
I thought maybe it was Kemal Ataturk, but it doesn't look quite right.
All water under the bridge now, at any rate - the homepage seems to be fixed.

From about 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. EDT, a different picture was substituted for the Leigh Ann Larkin picture on the homepage. It showed a man's face superimposed on the sun, all looming over a map of Turkey colored like the Turkish flag.
I grabbed the image while it was on the page; unfortunately, I don't have a photo-sharing account. Maybe I'll do that later today.
