Hey mom! I'm off to take care of some chores around here, that I've been sorely neglecting. Fun, fun. Little Women tonight, alas without Maureen McGovern. Oh, well. Enjoy your day!

Hey - remember when if you say a kid riding a bicycle wearing a helmet, you knew it was because he was retarded?

Remember when if your mom picked you up at school to drive you home, the other kids made fun of you?

I remember lying on the front porch on a summer night with a copy of the Sears catalog spread out in front of me and my best friend. We would turn it page by page and we each got to pick out whatever we wanted from 'our' page. We were obviously extravagantly rich because we had an entire catalog to choose from.

Later on we'd go out into the yard and lay on our backs in the grass and wait for the Echo satellite to fly over. (This was more exciting than I can possibly describe.) While waiting we'd try to count the stars. There seemed to be billions of them. Today with all the ground lights I can't even see the big dipper.

Black Jack and Beeman's gum / bubble gum cigarettes / Yoo-hoo chocolate soda pop and Dad's root beer / selling home made pot holders (made from woven nylon bands and a little loom) door to door / laughing at Soupy Sales until you physically got sick (no joke) / just knowing that you looked just like Mousekateer 'Annette' and you could be called by Uncle Walt at any time to replace her, (and saying a little prayer that 'Disneyland' that week - later called 'Wonderful World of Disney' - was going to show a cartoon episode instead of one of those boring movies / spending every possible minute of the summer outside and only coming home for meals / catching the biggest grasshopper you possibly could and then meeting up with the other neighborhood kids for an official 'Grasshopper Jumping Contest' / putting on your swimsuit during a summer rain storm and playing outside in the flooded street corner / playing an abbreviated form of baseball in the street (there was no traffic until the dads came home from work) / telling your little sister that 'mud pies' were edible and that she'd REALLY like it! ..... more and more and more....

Home from Little Women. It's snowing here again. Radio said So. Jersey would be getting a couple inches. I'm not in So. Jersey, but that obviously doesn't matter to Mother Nature. After last week, what's a few more inches of the white stuff, right?

My best friend that now lives in CA is here and we were over a friends house last night and started talking about our growing up years. Catching lightening bugs and putting them in glass jars with pieces of grass. As if that was going to keep them alive! Riding our bikes with baseball cards between the spokes. I could never get mine to go right. She reminded me about the times a summer rain would come and we would get out our umbrellas (anyone remember the bubble shaped ones?), pretend we were Mary Poppins and jump off this cement wall that surrounded her driveway. Thank God, it wasn't all that high up! We also used to hang out on her front porch whenever thunder storms would come, even though our moms were yelling at us to get in the house. We loved our storms. Still do. She took great delight in reminding me about the time she wasn't home, so I went to play with some other neighborhood kid. We played bumper bikes, which resulted in an emergency room visit and 14 stitches under my knee about a week before school let out for summer vacation. I do remember thinking the doctor looked like Dr. Kildare. Richard Chamberlain. I also remember asking him if he was really a doctor and asking to see his diploma. I guess, since he looked like a doctor on t.v., I wanted to be sure he knew what he was doing. We were laughing through our tears last night.

OMG - that's hysterical! How old were you? Thank God you got the stitches two weeks BEFORE school let out. It wouldn't be cool at all if you didn't have that wound to show off at school!

"I don't remember the ball toy being called a "Footsie". I think it had "Skip" in the name, but there are various versions of it that still exist for sale."

I'm new to this thread, so forgive me if this has been answered(I haven't read entire thread yet). From what I remember it was called a "Lemon Twist" and it had a plastic, yellow lemon in the end of it(have no idea why they chose a lemon). I loved mine! The current version is called a "Skip It."

I think I was about 10 and really should have known better, but hey, when it looks like your leg is falling off, you're really not thinking too clearly! Dr. Kildare wasn't still on at that point, but my parents used to watch it all the time when it had been, and I always thought RC was so cute and wished that he was my dr. Going to school those last few days wasn't really that much fun. I did get lots of ooohs and ahhhhs and people helping me and all, but I had to have my leg propped up on this stupid hard wooden chair the whole day. Luckily at that grade, we stayed in the same classroom, so I didn't have to worry about going from room to room. I did get to get of class and on the bus a couple minutes ealier than everyone, though, so I wasn't mixed in with the craziness of all the kids rushing to get out. Definitely not one of my finer moments!

I had such a crush on RC in "Dr. Kildare" that I hounded my parents to get me a Dr. Kildare shirt like the one shown here. Then I had to get his album. "THE THEME FROM DR. KILDARE - Three Stars Will Shine Tonight". Believe it or not - I still have it!

Morning all !!! Thanks Mom for for the coffee and buns. It took me awhile this morning to figure out that they moved the sign on to the top of the site........Rob should know that you can't make changes on us old folks..LOL !!!
I had to share this wiht all of you...

Paul Harvey Writes:

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and
homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are
sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister.
And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boygirl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.
May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.
Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

Normally I avoid discussing the buying or selling of stock, but I
felt this is important enough to share and warn you since this
explosive situation might prove to be yet another ENRON. Please
review any holdings you might have in the following stocks:

American Can
Interstate Water
National Gas Company
Northern Tissue Company

I advise you to sit tight on your American Can, hold your Water and let go of your Gas. You may be interested to know that Northern Tissue touched a new bottom today and millions were wiped clean.
It's a tough market out there, so be careful.
