How the hell do I respond to this?

I'm currently having a polite argument with some poster on IMBD about "American Beauty." I fail to see the beauty in the damn plastic bag scene and he's been trying to "explain" it to me. This morning, some random f****r butts in and says to me:

"Ah, so you're a Christian? You only see beauty in pink roses and children laughing on a playground and two nuns walking on the beach? It's very understandable.

What the hell do I say to this kid? How do I tell him that i find his statement extremely offensive to Christians and non-Christians alike, without losing my temper and cussing him out?

re: How the hell do I respond to this?

Be sarcastic but with class...try something like
"Oh no I acctually prefer yellow roses,Children being quiet on a playground is nice aswell, and nuns riding horses on the beach is much better than nuns walking on the beach. Unless of course the nuns walking on the beach are picking up plastic bags so that they can't billow in the breeze" I mean really what can he say back to that?

considering the theme of the movie is that beauty is subjective, by him telling you that, he has made it clear he has absolutely no idea what the film is about.

I know you want to and I probably would, but a response is all the sucker wants. I might even respond in general as if the person never showed up, make him think you didn't even notice the post, that would really make the person angry.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I of all people am recommending the non-response response too. If only because I read those imdb boards from time to time and they really scare me.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Pop - you should check out the Yahoo boards - makes you wonder what those people do to get a computer.

There are loads of little teeny boppers on there. Have you guys seen the RENT boards on IMDB?

Hell no! I don't read the Rent threads on HERE, why would I subject myself to it on IMDb?

Best comment I ever read on those boards, I can't remember the film it related to though, was this:

"This is the worst film I've ever seen and I must have seen like, fifty."

I honestly didn't know what to say to that either..........

The IMDB boards, in addition to having threads ordered by the chaos method, have posters so demented it's a minor miracle they even managed to figure out how to use a keyboard. Well, sort of.

re: How the hell do I respond to this?

It's funny, about a week ago, I saw a plastic bag like the one in the film flying about 12 stories in the air. It was just floating around with no sign of ever coming back down to earth again. To me, the beauty of the bag in American Beauty was the simplicity of nature and how we take it for granted. The bag floating around for a long period is interesting in that it is nature that is causing the phenomenon and it is the ignorant human carelessness that provided the prop. Nature is constantly providing small overlooked feats of wonderment while we are too busy and self-absorbed to treat it with respect.

That Christian remark was bitter, ignorant and bigoted. A very narrow-minded view that all Christians are alike.

There's what, at least a billion Christians out there, aren't there? People who think they're all alike are obviously using about 2% of their brains instead of the usual 10%.
