i beat the first traffic ticket two years ago but after fighting a ticket this morning for a california roll through a stop sign (allegedly!!) i finally pled guilty. i went to court to fight this one too but before court a detective took me outside. he said that the officer was out sick today and the judge was prepared to order a continuance, or i could plead guilty to a reduced charge that would have no points.

i didn't know you could get points for running a stop sign anyway! after questioning the cop more, i took the plea and paid the extra $7.41 for "hearing and court costs" in addition to the $110 ticket. when i asked the woman at the counter why it was $7.41 more since i already paid the ticket and there was no hearing, she replied: "but we sent you notice of hearing...."

i feel hosed and i'm gonna get my $7.41 back from this town - just you wait and see!

And for those of us law-abiding citizens (or those who use their mirrors well are lucky are still young), what are points?

idina menzel of course will play me in the musical. think carrie meets urban cowboy meets dance of the vampires.

points are something the state puts on your license which costs more money to you for insurance. if you get a certain number of points, your license can be suspended.

Extend your hearing date.

You get two extensions (at least you do here in CA) so use them both. The cop NEVER shows up if you've extended it twice.

No matter what happens, if you owe them money, PAY THEM IMMEDIATELY!! Learn from my stupid mistake.

I had 6 piddly little parking tickets (no parking at all where I used to live) and I kind of forgot about them. I then tried to fight them but it didn't work.

Those tiny, $24.00 tickets turned into a grand total of $1450.00 and many hours of frustration.

Wasted, wasted money.

Don't let it happen to you.
