#1How to get mp3 files from my LPs

Hey tech-savvy people:

I have a bunch of cast album LPs and while I adore listening to them on my turntable I wish I could take some of those albums with me on my ipod.

What software and/or devices do I need to convert my LPs to mp3 files? I think my turntable has red and white rca output cables.

Thanks!

You need to by an actual device that converts the albums to digital files.

I got my mom one for Hannukah.

It is basically a USB turntable.

Check Amazon or CNET for reviews and prices.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to have a USB turntable, although it would make things easier for you. You can probably just plug the cable from your turntable into the input of your computer. You'll need the cable that is the white and the red on one side, and a 3.5mm jack on the other. You'll also need software that can record that input and turn them into mp3. I am not sure which software though.

I found this site for you through Yahoo Answers. It might be able to help you out:

450g (1 lb.) beef, minced (lamb is preferable, if available.)
1 Vinyl Record
1 onion, chopped
1 canned tomato
1 stock cube
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce ('Lea & Perrins' brand is preferable)
100 cc Red Wine (option)
1 tea spoon plain flour
1 tea spoon Nutmeg
1 tea spoon Curry Powder
Salt & Pepper to taste
450g (1lb) Potato, diced
3 table spoons milk / double cream / single cream
20-30g (1oz.) butter
salt & pepper to taste

Heat oil in a large saucepan. Saute chopped onion and minced meat. Add plain flour, nutmeg, curry powder, salt & pepper, and saute until cooked. Add tomatoes (with their juice), Worcestershire sauce, red wine, and stock cube. Slowly insert the desired vinyl 33 1/3 record. Stirring constantly, Simmer uncovered until sauce has thickened. Pour mixture into a casserole.

Set oven to 180-200C(375F). Boil diced potatoes until tender. Add butter, milk (cream) salt & pepper to boiled potatoes, and mash the mixture well. Pour mashed potato over meat mixture. Bake for about 20 minutes or until light golden on surface.

With my mom, I wanted it simple and easy - the USB was plug 'n play, and installed easily. The software was included, and I was able to record within 10 minutes of turning the turntable on.

The USB turntable cost a little more then $100.

I was of the opinion that if you had to ask how to do it, you probably needed the easier solution - if you are adventurous, you can try to do it as suggested.

Good luck.

Actually the usb turntable sounds like a good idea for my mom. She has often mentioned how she wishes she could play her old records but her turntable seems to have died. And she got an ipod for christmas....hmmm.

I'm happy with my little turntable and I think I'm adventurous enough to try with the wires and free online software. Thanks for all you help!
