A new film biography of the one and only Divine opened today.

Instead of respectful biopics, I really wish we still had the authentic, outrageous and talented phenomenon walking among us. Since that's not an option, however, I'll take what I can get.

ETA: sorry for the multiple posts!!

I saw it in Baltimore back in May with Jeffrey Schwarz, the director, and a lot of the Dreamlanders in attendance: John Waters, Mink Stole, Susan Lowe, Mary Garlington, Chuck Yeaton, Pat Moran, etc. Diana Evans, Divine's high school girlfriend, was also there.

The film is absolutely brilliant; very heartwarming and one I'd like to see over and over again. This is coming from a diehard Waters-Divine fan, though, so I may be biased. However, I sat next to a couple who had no idea about Divine and were just there as part of the film festival. They loved it, too.

The Castro theater is playing I AM DIVINE and FEMALE TROUBLE as a double feature on November 7th, for anyone who will be in San Francisco.

I am sooo excited to see this film. I LOVE Divine, I saw him perform live three times, that last time was two weeks before he passed away. A friend called me at work to tell me he died and I wouldn't believe her until I read it in the newspaper. I will have to see it when it plays in the Gay and Lesbian Fest here in Chicago, because it will be playing at one of the worst theatres in the city

The night I won a Divine lookalike contest, I was about to join him onstage to get my prize. He started kidding around saying "who has the nerve to try to be Divine" so I chickened out and ran home. He saw me though, and wrote me a note, signing it "Almost Divine" love Divine.

I loved Divine on film, but didn't know she did live shows. What did she do in them?

I saw him singing the songs on stage from the album he recorded.

Gaveston, Divine had a successful singing career. You can check the music out on Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, etc.

Love Divine. Female Trouble is brilliant!
That autograph is so cool, Jane!
Whenever I feel a little low, I put on Divine's version of The Name Game and all my troubles melt away.
