Last week, I got an email from Best Buy telling me that they've charged me $43.79 for an antivirus renewal fee for software that I don't even use.

I very quickly called my bank and filed a fraud claim. The credit card was cancelled and the money was returned and I thought I was done with it.

Found out today that Best Buy again charged my card $43.79. I'm on hold with my bank's 24 hour fraud department getting this taken care of AGAIN.

Why, Best Buy? WHY?

If you purchased that anti-virus software from Best Buy however many months/years ago, you need to read the terms and conditions of that sale. You may have either opted-into or automatically enrolled into automatic renewal for virus protection (update of definitions, upgrades, etc.).

Happened to me years ago, but I opted-in on purpose. Wasn't through Best Buy, though.

I would contact Best Buy, not just the bank...

even if you think you're not using it, it still upgrades. i'd suggest calling the company who makes the antivirus softwear and telling them you no longer want to subscribe.
and then download a free antivirus program (i use avira antivir)

Now Best Buy is telling me it could take up to FOUR WEEKS for my money to be returned.

How can they charge the card a second time when it was canceled after the first incident?

I believe he meant they canceled the charge, not the card.

When I filed the claim I actually thought someone stole my card and used it at Best Buy. As of tonight, the claim has been retracted. I'm just waited for the paperwork from the bank.

If you have an agreement with a company to do any kind of renewal or "Only 3 easy payments" type thing, as long as you have the same bank, you'll still be charged. I found this out when I had a membership with a certain gay chatting site. I cancelled the bank account, but the site still charged me because of our agreement.

^ Yeah, but with Circuit City, Tower, CompUSA etc all gone, the choices of chain stores to hate is really limited.

I made the mistake of trying to get my computer fixed after it crashed

It cost an arm & a leg & they did not do all they promised. I will never again go anywhere near Best Buy.

When I was in college, I brought my laptop to Best Buy to be fixed and it was returned to me with my battery missing. When I confronted them about it, they said that I must have forgot to put the battery in before giving it to them. To say I was pissed was a VAST understatement.

I bought a laptop at Best Buy three years ago, and purchased an extended 3-year warranty on it. I really didn't start having problems with it until the last year, and even though I've had to bring it in three times, I've never had to pay a dime for a repair. Granted, I've only made big purchases at one of their Chicago stores, so I can't really speak for other places, but I've never thought of Best Buy as the enemy.

See, right there you admit you breached the agreement you made. Everyone knows you've got to cancel before a certain date when you do the free trial. No one is committing fraud against you.
