Why is it that I buy a cd and after only a couple of listens, it is scratched up so bad I can't listen to it again? And the big question is, how did it get so scratched up? I mean, I even have cd's that I listened to once . . . put in my cd booklet . . . and pulled it out again months later and it skips like crazy. What the?!?!?

I'm really anal retentive so my CDs are perfect except for the ones certain friends go through... the joys of sending mp3's as an attachment...
I like CDs...they are preeetty, well some of them are.

I know sometimes those CD booklets can scratch your CDs, but never to the point where it would be unreadable. It is possible that the CD player itself is scratching them. Sometimes the laser can decend too low and scratch the surface.
Try keeping the next CD you buy in its case and see if it still gets scratched. It's better to keep a CD in its case anyways, though less convenient. You should also consider ripping your CDs to your computer, so there's no need to mechanics involved.

Posted: 4/30/06 at 9:05pmI really do think it is my car cd player. It has melted 2 cd's in the past. Grrrrr...

Posted: 4/30/06 at 9:12pmI don't know what you do to your CDs, but there are a few CDs that I've had over 10 years and never skip at all. The only CDs that I ever have problems with are ones that I buy used. :)

Keeping them in a hot car could mess them up.
My dad stays back in the time. He refuses to listen to anything except tapes. If anyone gets a CD he likes (which many of the new ones he doesn't), he will transfer the music from the CD onto a tape.
Sad, I know...

Yeah, I have the same feeling.
I'm counting down the days until I get a MP3 player.

I have the iTrip for my iPod, but I can't get it to work properly. It can't find an empty frequency in my area to send it through.

I haven't decided what type I'm going to get, but probably not an iPod.
I didn't really think about the car thing, but I won't have to deal with having my own for quite some time.

Like Atrias said, it's CDs. Many CDs. Not possessive, or even some kind of compound.
I think I'll start an I Hate Random Apostrophes thread.

But my guess it's the CD booklet. I had one that would take chunks out, not scratched, CHUNKS!
Just keep them in the jewel cases.
