I feel so evil now, as if my hands are stained in the bloodiest blood that ever bled.
Auditions for BUCKET OF SMILES (The play I'm directing) were today and it was time for my least favorite part...casting. I absolutely loathe having to cut people. And now I feel soooooo bad. But what must be done must be done.

I feel your pain. I directed an all-campus variety show in college where I had several friends audition... and I couldn't cast them all. It was the WORST feeling at the time.
I did that whole "dance" in my head... between going for the best person vs. casting a close friend that you know will do well, but NOT as well as some of the others.

Remember, its not personal, its business.
Good advice, wexy... but, it's still hard to disappoint others.

True but sometimes rejection can inspire someone to work harder or try a new approach. Writing, I'm used to rejection.
A big hug for C_S!
It is nice to see a conscience in the business. I think it would be easier, though, if you have the hide of a rhino.
Do you NOT need a hug for your aunt dying today though???
