Posted: 11/3/04 at 1:23pmThere is no other explanationas to why so many people came out and voted Bush. We are just as bad as those Islamic countries who vote for leaders who will keep people enslaved to primal notions of Messianic figureheads. I can see all of my rights slipping away by the second.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 1:25pmBlaming God for this is just as specious as Bush saying God is on his side. Politics is the affair of man. Blame human nature or blame history. But don't blame God for everything you can't change.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 1:34pmI think if you read my post, you see I"m not blaming God, but I'm blaming "God". aka -- the fundamentalist notion that filters itself through a state-of-nature hypothesis that is one of the banes of not only modernity, but even classical liberalism.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 1:54pmBut in those Islamic states, usually they don't vote for the leaders because they want to, they do so because they have a machine gun trained on their head. Apparently, the majority of US citizens prefer to have their guns aimed at them AFTER the elections because things will only get uglier from here on out.

I think part of the problem is that we (the US) got so used to landslide presidential campaigns (80,84,88,92,96) that we 'forgot' what it's like to have half the country pissed off.

magruder...correction. the 10% figure youre using is this...
10% of the total vote was in the age group of 18-25. When broadened to 18-29 (the official "youth vote"), we were 17% of the total vote. Now, 22% of the country is under 30, so it still sucks that our age group is not at least 22% of the vote. Especialoly when we have possibly the most to lose from the election. But, young people are stupid, what can I say? We did tend to vote overwhelmingly Kerry (in 2000, we only slightly favored Gore).
So, overall, more young people came out and voted this year. However, they didn't come out disproportionately to other age groups.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 2:42pmWhy did people vote for Bush? There are no jobs out there. Unemployment is at an all time low and our troops are being massacred in Iraq? Stupid people.
#11re: I blame God
Posted: 11/3/04 at 2:46pmBroadwaylady: slight correction, unemployment is at an all time high. If it were low, it wouldn't be an issue!!!

bwaylady, the issue isnt the claim itself, but the grammar.
Employment is at an alltime low (aka no one has jobs)
Unemployment is at an alltime high (aka no one has jobs)

LOL
Think about it.....
Unemployment is at an all-time HIGH. Meaning the rate of unemployment is HIGH. Dottie was correcting your mistake, BroadwayLady, not your intent.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 2:56pmThank you, my mistake. I get carried away sometimes especially about the lack of jobs in the country. Sorry.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 3:00pmThank you Touchmeinthemorning and Mister Matt. Broadway Lady, I was definitely not correcting your intent. I was among the unemployed a few months ago, so I know how it is.

unemployment is at an all time high.
5.4% nationally in 2004
7.7% nationally in 1976
7.1% nationally in 1980
10.4% nationally in 1982
6.9% nationally in 1991
6.6% nationally in 1994
5.4% nationally in 1996 (the last time an incumbent president ran for re-election, btw)
i'm sorry you're out of work, but unemployment is not even near an all time high for even the last decade.

They're going to care if this war escalates as it most likely will, and if they are drafted into the military. "

Bingo! I can't believe I'm old enough to say this but STUPID KIDS!!!! Yea, um, go to another frat party and drink another keg. Voting out the bumbling idiot that is the president is surely not as important.
You can make it to the FREAKIN' CONCERT but you can't make it to the FREAKIN' POLLS?????!!!!!
#20re: i blame god
Posted: 11/3/04 at 3:48pmI voted and I'm in the 18-25 bracket. And touchmeinthemorning already explained that that figure is not accurate.

Of course some 18-24 year old's voted. I realize that. But they are already saying that the big push needed from the young vote never materilized.
They may have registered, but they did'nt bother voting. All talk, no action.
Again, I can't believe I"m old enough to say "stupid kids", but that's how I feel. (I'm 36 btw)

You know, if I came off sounding snippy or anything, I did'nt mean to. I'm just so freakin' angry/frustrated/ over this whole thing is all.
I just don't get what the hell happened? Did Bush brainwash people? (Seriously) Brainwashing is at least a logical explination.
It's like I'm stuck in a nightmare and I can't get out of it....
#25re: i blame god
Posted: 11/3/04 at 4:46pmYou can say stupid kids all you want but everyone I know (myself included) voted in this election and we're all in that age group. I don't think you can blame the younger voters for not voting anymore than you can blame people of any other age for not voting. And, just because someone is in that age group, does not mean he or she would have (or did) vote for Kerry.
