honey I feel your pain, my tonsilitis is back and I missed my conducting midterm this morning because of it, so I'm off to health services in a bit to get a doctor's note.
These tonsils are coming out over Christmas break and I'm terrified.
Gotta love how singers are the ones who always end up with throat infections.

Oh, I'm sorry you guys are sick!
B-wayStar2B, try slippery elm. Sometimes you can find it in liquid form, and it helps...well, me at least.
And, Judy, I'm sorry you're getting your tonsils out, when I had mine out, I was scared too...but, just follow their directions and don't over exert yourself while you're recovering, and you should heal quickly!
Feel better, guys!

thanks watchme!
and hugs to darling broadwaystar2b. If you are performing, don't use anything with menthol in it. It numbs your throat and inhibits your singing.
Also, try to avoid drinking a lot of water right before you perform, as it washes away the natural lubricants in your throat.
What I find useful is either sucking on a non-menthol candy (werthers or something like that) or chewing gum to get your saliva going. It actually works quite well.
As for the tonsils, I'm a voice major. I had a very serious case of tonsilitis back in February and they have yet to shrink back down to their normal size. The infection went away, but has recently returned. Having large tonsils is causing me to lose valuable resonating space, and I often wake up and find they are inflamed and sore. Obviously it is difficult to be a voice major with this condition- but I have to wait until Christmas so I don't lose any lesson time. I can still sing, but it bothers me knowing that I would be able to sing BETTER if I had more room back there.
I'm just scared that something might go wrong and the scar tissue will inhibit my singing even more. It's really a gamble....but everything happens for a reason.
