In the spirit of this thread's name, did anyone else find the Katie Couric/Bob Costas "commentary" during the opening night ceremony a new low in the dumbing down of ... commentary, if not America? Whatever one thinks of the solomn opening tableau vivants, depicting mythological origins of the games, etc ... did anyone else find Ms Catie's chirpy remarks about the dry cleaning bill and how the floating parthanon, or whatever "looks like the witch's house in WIZARD OF OZ..." (Cue Costas going the Margaret Hamilton theme) ... almost like a SNL sketch? Every comment undercut any attempt at reverence ... and by the way, it wasn't the "witch's" house -- it was DOROTHY's, you idiot. Jeesh, for eight million a year, she oughta be able to reference the most famous American movie ever. (And don't pounce on me, Couric-ites; I'm a TODAY show loyalist.)
