I hate older people who ruin fun

Yes, I know I'm being annoying and complain a lot, so if you get annoyed, don't read THANK YOU

yeah so I just got cast as Riz in this dinner theatre production of Grease, which was this HUGE deal for me, cuz everyone else in the cast is like, 20. So this prissy 17-year-old makes this HUGE scandal about how "her" part went to a 14-year-old. So, t oavoid any more trouble, I am OUT of the show.

Problem 1: why must directors care so much what a prissy 17 year old htinks?

Problem 2: URRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

Sally,

With all due respect, this story just isn't "developing" in "my camera."

Once a director casts a show, why would he/she care what anyone else thinks about his/her casting choices?

Is it possible that there's more to this story that perhaps you're not aware of for some reason?

::cries:: I DUNNO

just what the director told me. She said "I'm very sorry, but we've been getting some complaints. I'm afraid we'll just have toraise the age limit. But here, we have auditions for Chicago coming up, you should audition!" Plus, this blonde girl who auditioned too I saw stomping into the directo;s office shortly after she was told she had an ensemble part.

WHAT makes them think that if I can't hold a spot in grease I would be able ot hold a spot in Chicago?

mlesh im so confused i cant even tell you

Welcome to showbusiness, kid!
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I'm guessing that maybe the potential liabilities of having a fourteen year old (no matter how talented) hanging out with a group of 20 year olds might have started to occur to the director...

..true, but is it really fair to decide that AFTER casting has been, well..cast?

Thanks.

Wow, I seem very aggitated in my first few posts here. Please forgive, I'll get over it with just the right dosage of coffee.

re: I hate older people who ruin fun

Sally I am so sorry-- it sounds like a pretty crappy theatre that would re-cast due to "some Complaints".

That aside, the part of Rizzo in Grease could NEVER be played by a teen ager! Watch the movie, Rizzo is CLEARLY at least 40!

re: I hate older people who ruin fun Joe!

I'm very sorry you were disappointed like this, Sally - it would probably have been easier if you'd never been told you had the part in the first place. However, I do see a bright side. If you're talented enough to be considered for this part at 14, I'm sure a lot of other parts will be coming your way soon.

Ugh, how frustrating! I'm sorry! Boo and mlesh to the director who put you through that. =(

re: I hate older people who ruin fun

Either there is something they are not telling you or the director is a spineless creep. Doesn't sound like a great place to work. Why would they think you would want to do another show there when they offer you a role and then take it away? Who's to say they won't do it again?

re: I hate older people who ruin fun

I'm sorry Sally.

Just take some comfort in the fact that the new Rizzo will have to live with the fact that she was second choice for the role - and second choice to a 14 year old for that matter. Yes she may have the part, but this will be killing her. Have a bit of Schandenfreude in that. :)

re: I hate older people who ruin fun

Iflit, the liabilities of the 14 year old chilling with the 20 year old isn't so bad.
When I was 14 I did West Side Story with a cast where everyone else was over 22 (and to think they're supposed to be TEENAGERS in WSS!). I was the youngest by eight years, and DAMN did I ever get an education!
Up till that point I did shows like Annie and the Sound of Music, this was my first show where I was alone in a group of adults. So no one ever watched what they said, or anything like that.
I owe my corruption to the theatre.

JID I did a production this past summer where it was all 19-25 year olds besides one 6th grader and he gave us the education!

re: I hate older people who ruin fun

I think you should sue the bastards, just like that girl who was supposed to be Annie in the revival. Buy a ticket for opening night, front and center so the Riz can't miss you and just glare at her through the whole performanc and make her so uncomfortable she messes up all her words.

Ah, revenge is sweet.
PEACE.
