I just found out my dad still smokes...

For how long? I don't know. But he said he quit about 2, 3 years ago, and when I asked him periodically if he smoked, he said that he didn't. I just went to see how our lanscaping was coming (beautifully, by the way) and I see him walking to get the mail with a cigarette in his mouth.

I mean, I understand the stress he recieves from his work and nicotine is an INCREDIBLY addictive substance...but then why would he lie? I don't know whether to confront him or not...maybe I'm wishing I hadn't seen him.

maybe he's lying because he feels bad that he a) can't quit b) ahamed of starting again c) didn't want this reaction. Smoking is a nightmare to give up! When i started smoking again i didn't tell anyone for two weeks... would hide the cigs and everything and i was 19! I felt like i'd let the people down who helped me wuit... but in the end i never really wanted to stop!

Try encouraging your dad not to lie by letting him know that you won't judge him; at least if he's going to smoke, he should not be lying to you about it. He's gonna have to figure it out on his own.

Honestly, if it's not affecting you directly - i.e., he's not smoking in the house - then it's not yours to deal with. He knows exactly what he's doing - he's not a child. You need to leave it alone.
