I closed on my first place a few weeks ago. The whole experience was as nerve-wracking as they come, with pretty evertyhing that could go wrong doing so. Now that it's over, though, I'm thrilled with my place and I'm really glad I did it. Good luck to you and I hope your experience goes smoother than minie!
Be sure to have a housewarming party with invitations that say "No gift, no show".
I'll probably have an "art" party. Buy a couple of canvases and supplies and let the guests create the art that will help decorate my new place. I did this once before many years ago and it was a lot of fun.

That's a great idea, Mister Matt. I may have to steal it someday.
I think everyone should try it. The party guests have a great time and you get a special work of art created for you by those you love. Regardless how it turns out, it ends up being something really special.
The first time I did it, I was surprised to find the guests had written lovely notes and personal messages on the back of the painting as a "signature". I didn't even know they were doing it at the time.
Congratulations!! Owning my condo is the only way I've been able to get a decent tax refund.
Congrats Matt! My wife and I are closing on our first house next Tuesday as well. It's a great feeling isn't it?
Congrats Matt! Owning your own home is an amazing feeling! We've been in our home since October and we love it! I'm so excited for you sweetie!

My beloved and I bought our first house this weekend as well. It must be going around.
Oh my! So many new homeowners! A heartfelt congratulations to you all and may you have nothing but happiness in your new nests.

And, unlike the poor saps we bought from, may we all make a KILLING in Real Estate!
Ha ha Joe. We had ours built and started the process around this time last year so we signed the paperwork and got locked into a price before the market started to drop so we paid a lot more than we would have had we waited 6 months, but we still got a great deal and have an amazing home. I hope that we still make a decent amount when we sell in 5 or 6 years from now.
Congratulations to all the new homeowners! Especially since you're buying at the bottom of the market right now, with low mortgage rates.
Closing on your first home IS the most nerve-wracking experience. For me it felt more adult than anything I had done before, more adult than I actually felt I was. I overextended myself, bought some Art Deco furniture I probably shouldn't have bought and had a few huge housewarming parties.
And at the end of the year, like Dottie said, I got a tax refund!
Congrats, Matt!!!
Homeownership is an adjustment if you've been paying rent your whole life, and there is no super to call for your leaky faucet (not that they do anything in New York), but it's very rewarding...great timing, too!
We are celebrating 10 years owning our home. We bought it for a steal it turns out, so we've put alot of work into it and now it's worth three times what we paid for it, including renovation costs.
One piece of advise...for me, the closer I am to my job, the more likely I'll be late. Dont leave the house at the last minute!
I've never been late thanks to my 2 hour commute.

Have fun - it will suck every dime out of you with repairs, taxes, etc.
Just joking, I love our little toy house on the Northwest side. But, holy crap there is always work to do!
I am buying my first place also. Just put the deposit down and should close in August. It is new construction on an apartment in the Financial District so it might run late. I am in the, "WHAT THE F... Was I thinking!?" stage. The whole nightmare of mortgages, FICA scores and people crawling out of the woodwork with their hands out. Geesh. People have told me though, it is probably the smartest move I could make right now.
Congratulations, Matt, and everyone else, too!
Yay Matt! That's a great idea with the party and the canvases.
Is this in Texas?
