Deborah Voigt was fired from the Royal Opera House for being too fat to fit into a costume for their production of ARIADNE. Now, after going through gastric bypass the slimmed down Voigt has been invited back, and HAS ACCEPTED! I think I would have told them to shove it. I love Deborah, but have you no pride? Isn't this kind of like going to the prom with the guy that made fun of you all through school then asked you out only after you had a make over, your face cleared up and you lost some weight?

All I know is that if I were producing this opera, Deborah would be the one to call no matter what size she is. It will be interesting to see how the press covers this.

I remember the piece "60 Minutes" did on her this past year. Maybe they'll do an update.

Why couldn't they just make the costume bigger in the first place?

I don't think the dress was ever made but still in the design phase and the director thought she was too big to look good in the design. So instead of redesigning the dress to make it a bit more flattering for Deborah's size they fired her and recast the role. Talk about cutting off your nose...
