Ok, here's my first off topic post. I'd like to know how many of you have an iPod and why you chose it. I was looking at them today and saw the 10 gig on sale(!) for $299.00.
After carefully reading the box and the info flyer, I found that you have to have a card installed onto your computer and the 10 gig does NOT come with either that card or the cradle (you kinda NEED that, don’t you?).
So what’s the big deal about having one or is it just a status thing?
Thanks,
D
I've got the 20 gig version... All it requires in the computer is a USB port, which every computer made since 99 or so has got in it.
I travel once a month or so for the day job so it's great to have all my music (converted it to mp3s on a rainy weekend) with me on the plane, and other dull moments. Laptop does the same, but battery life is only 6 hours or so.

Hey Rob, I should have known you would have one.
A couple of questions, please?
What kind of batteries does it take? How long do they last?
So it's just a USB port? The box said something about a Fire (something or other). What about the craddle? It does need that?
And more important, how do you like it, Rob? Is it worth the money?

It's got a built in rechargeable battery that lasts about 7-8 hours... It can connect to the computer (not sure if all models are the same - never researched much) via USB or Firewire. Firewire transfers the songs faster, but both work a-ok. I think the cradle is optional.

It comes with the cables to charge/transfer music. I love mine, but whether or not you need one all comes down to whether or not you've got a need for portable music...

I've gotta need, believe me.
I just broke my PDA's headphone jack. Three days on the bus without music has been sheer hel err heck.
I could send it(the PDA not the bus--well that's not a bad idea either) in for repair but thought it was a good excuse for a new gadget. ![]()
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Ditto what Rob said. I have the same iPod also with an adaptor so I can play music in the car. Rather than my 10 disc CD changer, I have many, many more choices with the iPod.

Rob, do the higher gig versions keep their batteries longer? I'm looking into getting one for an 18 hour flight to Moscow.

Hey, Vicious Circle--I was just checking out the link Rob gave--Here's what it said about the battery pack.
Away from your computer for a few days? Belkin’s optional backup battery pack gives you more than 20 hours of battery life on four standard AA batteries
That would work for me!
Sounds like I WILL be getting an iPod--20 gig-sometime soon. I'm going to wait and see what the sale paper shows for next Friday. The day after Turkey day IS the biggest shopping day of the year.

I want to know where Rob found the time to convert his music to MP3's. Aren't we keeping you busy enough? ![]()
