Hey everyone. UGHHHH!!! I'm so mad because my computer recently crashed. I lost everything but reinstalled ITunes. The library, where i download CD's to, was blank because the old program was gone. I added a new CD, plugged my IPod in, and because the library ONLY had the new CD in it, it wiped out ALL of the 800 songs I had on the IPod. In the future, how can I prevent this from happening? Thanks so much.
Whatever is on your computer is what will go onto your iPod - deleted songs and everything. That is clearly how it works and it's definitely written in the handbook. So...you can't prevent it. Just don't delete things you want.........

Wrong. :)
Go to your iTunes settings through Edit->Preferences, choose the iPod tab, and say "Manually manage all songs and playlists." Anytime you upload songs into your computer you'll have to hand-drag them to the iPod, but you won't have something like what happened to you occur again.
Plum, I don't have an IPod tab under Preferences
Do i have to plug the IPod in first? or is there a way I can do it before plugging the IPod in?

You're using iTunes and you don't have an iPod tab? Are you sure? It should be there when you open the Preferences.
An alternative is to plug in your iPod and right-click on the icon. Then click "iPod Options" and do the same thing as above.
Your Ipod has to be plug in first. Then you will get an ipod tab in preferences.
