The past two weeks have seen such an overuse of the word "icon" that I just want to jam two fingers down my throat and gag and gag and gag. This one's a "comedy icon," that one's a "TV icon," s/he's a "fashion icon" and on and on. Why, just today I read that there was a fire on the top hill of an "iconic California roller coaster'. Clearly, there's NO END and NO MEANING and quite possibly, as those iconoclasts The Sex Pistols put it, "no future."
I love this Wikipedia line about "Iconoclasm: People who engage in or support iconoclasm are called iconoclasts, a term that has come to be applied figuratively to any individual who challenges cherished beliefs or venerated institutions on the grounds that they are erroneous or pernicious."
And then I thought, "Who might people not know about but might like to know about?" and the answer came right to me:
Jayne County, iconoclast
I had this once. It went away with some antibiotics.
Luckily, Frankie Grande refers to himself as a "Social Medial Mogul", but I'm sure he'll be some sort of icon soon.
