This is just plain sad. He wasn't a war reenactment guy - he was a collector of Civil War memorabilia. There were so many battles taking place all over Virginia that the ground was littered with buttons, medals, harness bits, and lots and lots of munitions. For a while, everybody became a collector. I remember when my dad passed away, I was going through his boxes and boxes of 'stuff' and came across jars full of mini-balls he'd collected over the years. There was a time when you couldn't cross a field without running into one or two folks with metal detectors.
