If your candidate wins . . .

If your candidate wins . . .

If the candidate you support wins this election for president, what would you say to the disillussioned supporters of the opposition?

For weeks now, I have proclaimed a serious concern as to what exactly was going to happen AFTER this election. The issues have been painful and divisive, and emotions have been absolutely worn down to their foundation. SO, I'm asking now, heading into the final countdown, how would you suggest that the people on the opposite side of the fence sould carry on from this point?

Bush supporters (papa, can you hear me?) -
Your support seems to have been derived primarily from a concern for national security, and yet, there seems to have been at least some empathy for the social concerns of some of Kerry's supporters. What would you say to make them feel a little less disenfranchised and fearful for their very civil lives?

Kerry supporters (can I get the support of a Pal?) -
The reasons for desire for change are legion, and yet, many of our fellow citizens (dare I say friends, or even family?) are seriously concerned about their very safety. How can you make them feel like their fear doesn't have to determine our history from this point forward?

And please, we have had ENOUGH opportunity to wax poetic on the strains of party dogma. I SERIOUSLY want to know what - if anything - any of us are going to do to try to move forward and accept that we are ONE group trying to find a way to live as a society. This is a trying time, and everyone of us has an opportunity to reach out. With the 50-50 split we have, chances are even that you're going to feel 'left out' - are you willing to reach out to the other side and move forward with a sense of purpose, or are we doomed to have this chasm grow so wide that we all fall into it and perish?

Oh, DGrant, such a voice of reason.

Honestly? If Bush wins, I'll be sad, and then I'll be angry. And then I'll wake up and go to work. I joke about moving, about everything, but what exactly can I do but live life as I did before?

As it's been pointed out, we have more freedoms than many countries put together. As a woman, I can wake up and go to work, and I can shake hands, hug, and even kiss members of the opposite sex. If I did that in certain countries, I'd be stoned.

In the words of Charles J. Guiteau, "Look on the bright side, not on the dark side..." (Yes, it's taken out of context, I know.) At least we are able to live life in the manner of our choosing (overall.)

Either way, God Bless America.

I subscribe to shira's way of thinking...and I urge everyone to follow, for the path is clear, and though the journey may be long, one day we will arrive at glory.

Shira - once again, wise beyond your years. I'll always meet you for lunch, if nothing else re: if your candidate wins . . .

papa - I'll be waiting . . .

I want to be at a lunch with Papa and DGrant. That would be a wonderful scene to see, two intellectuals discussing events and politics in society.

DGrant - we'll talk regarding lunch. It'll be like two yentas in a deli...though neither of us are like my grandmother.

I agree with shira. I'll be upset, disappointed with the people of this country, and then gloomy. But the sun will rise, and I will get up again and go to school at the wonderful high school that I go to where I can achieve an excellent education for free. Life will go on, and so will I.

For the sun will rise and the moon will set,
And you'll learn how to settle for what you get,
It'll all go on if we're here or not,
So, who cares, so what?
So, who cares, so what?

So What? - Cabaret

It's often called the weakest song in the show, but I like it. And I think it fits well here.

How fitting, Governor. The song is about coping with creeping fascism.
