Impending southwest trip and solicitation of suggestions

My husband, 12-year-old son, and I are flying into Vegas on July 15. Flying out on August 5. We're renting a car for those 21 days and have a rough agenda of seeing the southern Utah national parks, going over to Mesa Verde in southwest Colorado, going to South Rim of GC, going up to Yosemite, and then doing a few days in the LA area. We are seasoned travelers and have the requisite guide books, but I'd love your input on places to see and things to do that you love.
