In Dallas: Only four more performances of

Uptown Players' production of "Bent" by Martin Sherman has but four performances left, Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. What a great show for Mother's Day! In Dallas: Only four more performances of

First produced in 1979, "Bent" was nominated for both a Pulitzer and a Tony award in 1980. Essentially a love story, the play follows Max (David Plunkett) on his journey from the hedonistic Berlin of the early 1930s to his internment in Dachau concentration camp. It depicts the two great loves of his life: Rudy (Andrew Phifer), a somewhat hapless dancer, and Horst (Kevin Moore), a fellow prisoner at the camp. The underlying principles of hatred, whether fueling single outrageous events of violence or leading to a holocaust, are fundamentally the same then as now. This drama will remind us that we must be as vigilant against prejudice and hatred in 2007/2008 as the world should have been in 1937/1938.

I really wish I could see this. It's one of my favorite plays.

This play is one of the most poerful I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to see the original in London with Ian McKellen. I was in high school and I have never been so shaken by a play inmy life (or since). It was also my first time seeing Sir Mckellen.
I saw it again when it was produced on Broadway. In that production Richard Gere showed that he was no Ian McKellen, in fact he sucked (and not in a good way). David Dukes, in the second lead role, was amazing.
