When this movie first came out, my father told me that this was pretty much his life as a boy in a small town (Weed, CA) in the 40s... he was about the same age as Ralphie was when this story took place... My dad wanted that Red Ryder and was constantly told the same thing, "You'll shoot your eye out!"
love that movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT Movie! Can't wait to watch it this Christmas.
My father was born in 49 and he has always said this movie reminded him of his childhood. Easily a christmas classic.
It IS a great movie. If you get a chance, too, watch 'The Ref' if you've never seen it. It displaced 'A Christmas Story' as my favorite Christmas comedy...

Read the book on which it is based "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd. He was a great writer and storyteller.
readings not for me....i think I'll stick to the movie:)
It's interesting to note that the kid who gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole ended up using his tongue in a different way in films when he grew up. He became a porn star.
