I say bravo to Hawaii and South Dakota (I think it's both) who do NOT observe Columbus Day, but rather Indigenous Peoples Day.....
A day glorifying the white mans first days of erradicating the Native-American cultures in the New World is just wrong....tomorrow is no holiday in that respect.
no comments? I am surprised...we have so many PC and a few non-PC people, I would have tought SOMEONE would have a comment.....
I didn't see this one Elphaba. I suppose there is no chance to get this to spread. I remember quite a bit of backlash when around 1992 people complained about Columbus Day, and once again the "traditionalists" won.
well, I guess they need to define exactly what the holiday is for, and frankly Columbus landing on an island in Hispanola just doesn't cut it......
It's more to celebrate all things Italian, isn't it? Just as St. Patrick's Day is more about being Irish than it is about celebrating the patron saint of Ireland.
well, then let's change the name. I grew-up in Nor Cal, and there it was never about celebrating Italian heritage.......it was always Columbus discovering the new world, which of course he did not
