I am saying Yawper that WAY too often gay hate crime murders a downgraded to manslaughter...and if it had been a straight person, it would have been murder.....

It's manslaughter for many reasons. This is something known as "happy slapping" here in the UK, where idiot yobs go around beating up people at random and videoing it on their cell phones to watch later. The dead man's sexuality had nothing to do with the attack and there was no premeditation and they never actually meant to kill him. The same four people had attacked several other people that same night and recorded it on their phones. Had they been charged with any degree of murder, they would have been found not guilty. So which do you prefer?

That's what I thought you meant, but the identification of the victim as gay was with regard to an unrelated event. There was no indication that it played a role in this case or that those who killed him even knew he was gay.

that is usually what I expected you to say yawper.....

imagine straight men looking to hurt people IN A KNOW AREA OF GAY BARS...accidently picking a gay man to KILL......please.....try that in the Republican rooms, they'd definately buy that

I got your back, Elphie.

To not presume the murders were gay-related is insane. Why else go to that part of town at that time of day? It's not like it was the most accessible place to go for them.

and......most homophobic straight men would not be in that part of town unless they were up to something......

needless to say it's so sad to survive what he did, only to be killed by homphobic idiots..........

touchme, in 1996 while I was living in San Francisco, my ex and I were at the corner of Castro and Market (for those who don't know the center of the gay universe) IN full leather, and a car of 5 guys pulled up and started taunting us. (I mean that's like entering St. Peter's in Rome and taunting Catholics) My then partner had to hold me back as I was going for them. We only lived three blocks away, and those suckers kept passing......and when we got to our building I took off after them.....and they took off.......the chickensh**s.

Where did it say the defendants were straight???

It didn't.

Where did it say he was targeted because he was gay???

It didn't.

I suspect primarily due to the ages of the defendants prosecution went with a charge they felt confident they could get a conviction.

Sometimes justice is never fully served.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Munk, what does that have to do with anything? Half the Castro wears leather on weekend evenings....what's your point?

for the same reason a Bavarian in Chiemsee would be in lederhosen.....for the same reason a cowboy wears cowboy hats......I don't understand your point......

Elphaba and touchme, you need to research this case a little more thoroughly. David Morley was sat on a bench with a friend on London's South Bank, which is not in any way shape or form A KNOWN AREA OF GAY BARS. Homophobia was not a motive and if you go look at a map of the 4 attacks that took place that night NOT ONE of them was near a "gay" area of London. The attack was random and the sexual orientation of the victim is incidental.

I was being sarcastic.

I just don't understand what leather has to do with being gay or why gay people typically wear all leather. I just don't get it.
