Is anyone here in the painting business (as in painting walls, etc.) or recently had rooms painted? If so, what do you think is a reasonable fee for painting the four walls of two 13x13 rooms?

I have always done my own painting, but was curious to see what it would cost to hire someone to do these two rooms. The fee I was quoted seems quite high, so I may just get out my blue tape and do it myself after all!

There is nothing complicated about either one - four walls in a 13x13 room, 9 ft to ceiling. Walls are new - so no structural issues/patching required. Walls are currently light in color. One room is going dark - which could have driven up the cost (multiple coats...)

Thanks in advance for any insight!

peach, why don't I send Steve.......he painted the interior of our whole house....I didn't have to lift a finger.......and he's a perfectionist.
However if you take him, you must keep him for 60 days......heh heh

In Chicago, 150-200, depending on the condition and prep work necessary. My "fix it guy" charges $25.00/hour.

Elphaba - send him on over! I've got a guest room with a stocked library of my favorite old movies and musical DVDs...and I cook too. :)

$150-200? That's what I was expecting. The quote I got was a lot (a lot) more than that. I painted a darn loft - I can handle painting two perfectly square rooms over my morning coffee.

Looks like Mr. Peach and I will be breaking out the blue tape and Sherwin Williams for a nice afternoon of home decorating!

I'd jump on $150-200. In my area, for an experienced painter, it's more like $500-700 for a room that needs to be taped, spackled, primed and painted.
