Saw this last night in 3D, maybe a good twenty minutes too long. The 3d added nothing to the film, if you have seen the trailer you have seen all the action pieces in the film ( studios need to stop doing that, we don't need to see everything in the trailer ) stay after the credits, not sure if it was worth it, but there is at least a three minute piece.
Overall rather enjoyable film, nothing special.
Not sure if that would be a spoiler!
The movie suffers the most when the kid is brought into the story line, and that review about sums it up.
Ironman & Banner get it on?
Or is it the "A" does not end in vengers word?
OH and if they get smart ( BWAHHHH!) they will remember their source material and have Tony self destruct BUT find redemption and THAT is why Tony Stark ( Howard Hughes) becomes tragic and interesting not just glib & facile. Which is how Downey is playing him now.
Disagree: I think that Tony's moments with the kid were some of the best in the film.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. Definitely better than the second Iron Man!

The after credit thing really adds nothing to the movie, nor sets up anything for any upcoming movie

I saw the film today. I thought it was much better than the second movie. Guy Pearce was a very good villain and Robert Downey Jr. is just as awesome as ever.

I'm to the point where I can't even look at movies like this and "The Avengers" from a critical perspective any more. The mass destruction in both and this movie's exploitation of terrorism just ends up pissing me off.
I thought Iron Man 3 was actually saying incredibly VALUABLE things about terrorism and the War on Terror: that is, that it's something that's become domestically exploited to put fear into the populace. The exploitation of terrorism was an overt tactic of the villain.
Agreed Taryn. Jim, have you even seen it? I'm usually not the biggest fan of these superhero movies but I went with some friends and actually enjoyed it. Sure, it's corny and contrived and the violence and explosions are more than excessive, but it definitely held my attention and the terrorism plot was actually quite insightful.
SPOILER ALERT
The "terrorist" turns out to only be a drug-addicted actor who is convinced that he's playing in a movie and all the violence is on a green screen. Fear is exploited as a way for the true villain to carry out his plans and the true threat comes from someone who is certainly less suspicious "looking" to the American audience.

Yup, I saw it Saturday morning. I hadn't thought of it in the context that you did--it was just a raw reaction to a kind of movie I can't stomach anymore. Escapism is one thing and I know it's fiction and CG, but I'm tired of seeing NYC and California being blown to bits at regular intervals.
My partner's a fan of these things and for whatever reason, it didn't start bugging me until "The Avengers." But it does now.

Saw it yesterday- Maybe my ability to process modern film has atrophied but the thing made no sense to me at all. I thought The Mandarin was pretty clever but did they ever even attempt to explain WHY Guy Pearce did all this? Was it all just because he was pissed at Tony Stark? And the 9 bombings that the Mandarin was using to "teach" America- was there any point to them at all? And why did the government cover 6 of them up- and why did the Mandarin let them? Wouldn't he take to the TV and tell everyone what he had done?
It didn't make much sense, but more so than the last Dark Knight movie. But, I HATE that the big action finale in so many of these movies take place at night. Especially the Iron Man movies. It's just a way to skimp a little on the CGI.
My rant.

if i understand correctly:
the drug extremis was the goose that laid the golden egg. unfortunately, it had the nasty side effect of blowing up some of its recipients. the terrorist story was fabricated to cover for some of the explosions. eventually the mandarin wanted to keep the terrorist story going so he could profit from it by taking over terrorist/counter-terrorist business, which is why they needed to conscript the warmachine armour.

Is this movie different than its predecessors? You have seen so how do you rate it?

I finally saw the movie today and I enjoyed it... well enjoyed it more so then part 2... but for the life of me I can't quite get into these movies. I love Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark and I love the character for all three Iron Man movies are just decent to me, nothing to shout home about.
I actually dug the twist with the Mandarin and I just think Ben Kingsley is a fantastic actor!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll catch it on digital download or DVD. Someone sent me email earlier describing it using our secret code word...YASM...Yet Another Superhero Movie".
