Is Eli Overrated?

I hope I am wrong but it is starting to look like Eli Manning may not be the savior for the NY Giants that all seemed to think he would be
It appears everyone was seduced by his last name: Manning . Will he be the next Peyton Manning or the next Ryan Leaf or Browning Naegle ?
The jury is still out but he needs to step it up real quickly. So far, his first full season has been a mediocre dissapointment

Posted: 12/5/05 at 7:42pmI think he's more over-hyped than over-rated. It is really still his first season as a starter in the league. It takes a few trips around the horn to get it right. Peyton wasd 3-13 his first season, after all.

Posted: 12/5/05 at 7:47pmI agree - as a rookie, I would say he's holding his own, but he's certainly far from perfect. While he may be "over-hyped," I don't think it's necessarily wrong to expect good things from him.

Umm yeah he's really overrated
2816 passing yards, 20 touchdown passes, 3rd highest ranked quarteback in football behind his brother and Carson Palmer, first full season as a starter and a first place team?
Yeah he's terrible....

How many games has he had that are good and how many like yesterdays?
He has too many interceptions & seems tentative at times. Time will tell

Posted: 12/5/05 at 8:00pmExactly, time will tell. He had 12 interceptions, which while not wonderful definitly is better than some other members of his class, namely JP Losman and Ben Rothlesberger. I think Eli has IT and time will tell when the Giants go deep in the playoffs.

in baltimore's 1st year in the nfl tittle had a 51% completion percentage and threw only 8 td's to 19 int's. sure he was the aafc rookie of the year in '48, but that was the aafc. he was in his 13th season when he got to the giants.
simms' rookie year in '79 he had a completion percentage of 50% with 13 td's to 14 int's. not exactly stellar. it wasn't until his third year in the league that he managed to throw more td's than int's...2. 11 vs. 9.
is he overrated? of course, but then who isn't in this league? i think the giants have a gem there, but i wouldn't find it surprising if he flounders a bit in the playoffs. on the other hand, he seems to make the plays when it counts. the two play drive from their own 48 with :52 on the clock in the dallas loss? not too shabby.

This is a funny thread to me - eight strainght wins by a rookie with no stats but an incredible defense and running game - Kyle Orton!

Posted: 12/6/05 at 1:36amOh don't get me wrong Kyle Orton is proving himself big time. But come one, why jump down Eli's throat. If you're a GIANTS fan you should just be sitting back and enjoying this. I'm glad they're doing so well and that Eli is laying it down. It gives me something to look forward to on sunday, since Buffalo is the drizzeling Sh!ts this year.

As someone who went to Ole Miss with him, I can attest that Eli is all talk and nothing more. He is simply riding on the Manning name and sheer luck. And whenever he is in a clinch he freezes up. Needless to say, I am not of him as a quarterback.
Zach... wow, that all sounded more intense than I intended
