Hey everyone
I'm in a better mood! She didn't like really like the monologue I prepared so she asked me to prepare the other one. So I have another week!
I also have something I should be utterly PISSED OFF about, would you guys like to hear it?? It's horrible, beyond belief!
D2, you also get a smoothie.
Robby! Please tell.
Being single sucks.
Only if you're limber.
ETA: Thanks, Roz.
Welcome. I make a mean smoothie.
Tell us Robbie!

So...it's something we know coming into this school the Freshman DO NOT perform. We are assigned crew and costume work for all the shows. WELL, the director of the theatre program comes into class (we were in Musical Theatre Chorus Lab) and he tells us that they've decided that Sophomores will not be allowed to perform their first semester!!!!!!! They based this decision off the present sophomore class. All the guys were cast and one girl except for 9 other girls who were deemed unprepared and not ready to be in a mainstage production. What kind of BS is that? Just because the present sophomore class wasn't good enough, we're not allowed to perform our first semester!!!
We're paying money and working our asses off to get the chance to perform and because one class messes that up, we lose our privilege!! I mean, it's not that we don't get to perform period. But we have to participate in a "project" which is basically a straight play, directed and performed infront of no audience! Only the students. How lame is that?! We're MTs not ATs. We're here to perform in musicals and gain experience!
We were supposed to audition in April for the fall semester shows and but we can't obviously. We want the chance to audition and if they think we're not ready, put us in the project, but at least we had the chance to audition. Not ALL of us are unprepared, some of us are ready to move on.
I don't know, some of us called our parents about it and they're furious. We're planning a Freshman MT meeting to discuss if we should write a letter or if to bring it up at all.
I think it's a good idea to call a meeting and voice your concerns. Something like this happened in my theatre department, so our student theatre council organized a meeting, invited all the profs (around four came), and we got to ask all the questions we wanted.
I suggest, if you do have the meeting, do not lose your temper, or get upset, and make sure you word things maturely and fairly, so that way it doesn't turn into them assuming you're immature (since they already UNfairly seem to think so because of this unfounded decision they made.)
Good luck Robbie!

We've already agreed we won't lose our temper and go out of line.
It's understandable that they're concerned and I fully agree. But to COMPLETELY take away our chance to even audition is what's not cool.
They're also upset that some students missed rehearsal cause they went to a Hairspray audition and on their way back, there was an oil spill so they missed a rehearsal. This set the director over the edge. You should read his e-mail, this was his closing remark:
FIND COMMON SENSE AND EMPLOY IT FOR THE NEXT SIXTY-FIVE YEARS!
IT WILL SERVE YOU WELL!!!
Hahahahaha!

Yeah...I would say something about him...BUT...everyone in the Hartt schools knows everyone's business. It's ridiculous, We don't know how it happens but they know. The faculty knows if you got drunk at a party, if you smoke weed, if you do any drug, if you slept with someone within the program. EVERYTHING. Funny...our teacher for MTCL was calling out roll and got to my friend who got 2 callbacks at the HAIRSPRAY audition and he says to him, "Congrats on the callbacks, that's awesome!" Who would have told him?!?! No one in the freshman class talks to him.
But thanks Roz...I'll let you guys know if anything happens!
There's aaaaalllwaaaysss a mole.
My boyfriend and I went away for a special weekend together once, and didn't really tell anyone, and on Tuesday, all my profs asked how it went.

Words just gets around. We spend our days together. So they hear things!! We have most of our classes together and it's only 24 in each grade! So they're more likely to hear about us!
In MTCL it's the ATs and MTs and we sing chorus numbers and we practice harmonies and dynamics. This weeks song is Backstage Babble from APPLAUSE. Major lame-o. It's not even fun. I feel like we've all given up so we're not learning it!
I'm going to give him the sheet music for Purple Summer...hopefully that'll sound better. We sang You'll Never Walk Alone and it sounded gorgeous, I recorded it! We've sung Tradition, and We Start Today from BABY.
But Purple Summer will sound great.
Next year's MTCL will be amazing. It's only MTs (will sound better) and it's with the theatre dept's musical director. So we'll actually want to be there
Robbie, could you possibly avoid using so many acronyms? :/
I kind of have no idea what most of the acronyms you are providing mean.
I know MT is musical theatre, and that's about it.
Happy SAD and Valentine's Day, you crazy avs.
