taz - I was at a conference recently where somebody was touting their organization as the New York Yankees of their industry. He was less than pleased when I responded, "oh, you haven't had any success since 2000 either?"

ANyway, hello! I have a clarinet lesson in an hour, I have to have dinner in the meantime, still haven't practiced, and I'm here. So.

Yes, I do practice in my sleep, but the finger excercizes don't work well without a clarinet, so...

I don't do them.

And I seem to recall another thing I had to say, but can't remember what it was. it'll come back to me.

Oh, it just did. No, I didn't bed a hot Dane. Unfortunately.

How do you respond to this;

I asked my Irish teacher (who is really friendly) how his Easter was. He replied; 'Great. I buried my father. You?'

I wasn't sure exactly what to say, I just said I was very sorry to hear that, and that I didn't do much. (If you knew me in real life, you'd know that I could talk till the cows come home, even if I didn't have anything to talk about, so this was unusual).

Was right to just stop the conversation like that and move on to asking about music?
